Welcome to Jewel Tone Studio. Let me take a moment to introduce myself. I'm Julie Westfall, owner of Jewel Tone Studio. For me piano was always a love at first sight thing. At an early age I would gravitate to pianos/keyboards with an affection and irresistible urge to play and touch the keys - experimenting with sound, melody and rhythm. My parents purchased my first piano at the age of 2 and at 7 I began taking piano lessons. My exceptional piano teacher, Marie Graham, was instrumental in teaching me a solid foundation of music theory, performance, technique and expression. She encouraged me to perform on a regular basis and she and I often played for numerous weddings where I would play the piano as she played the organ. During those early years I also played the piano for church, accompanied soloists, and played in my high school jazz band where I received numerous awards including placement in All-Region and All-State bands. I graduated from Midwestern University with my education degree and went straight into teaching music at Layton Hills Elementary as well as teaching private piano lessons after school. I have been teaching lessons for 30 years now and can't imagine doing anything else. Nothing brings me more pleasure than to inspire my students to enjoy creating and performing beautiful music for themselves and others.
Music brings color and inspiration to the heart, mind, and soul. It is one of the most worthwhile life-long pursuits and can be enjoyed throughout the entirety of your life. One of the most common regrets I hear as a piano teacher comes from adults who wish they had pursued piano lessons as a child, but it's never too late to learn. Whether you're a beginner, intermediate or advanced student needing guidance, let's explore music together.
I offer weekly 30 minute lessons and teach all ages and stages. I offer a classical approach to piano learning that includes an emphasis on technique, artistry and expression as well as music theory. Students have the opportunity to learn many different styles and genres as they are encouraged to play music that they truly enjoy and find inspiring.
